Bierman Autism Centers’ ABA therapy services can help your child improve behaviors, learn new skills, and reach new goals.

Our ABA therapy makes learning fun with our play-based naturalistic approach. We understand that children are always right – and if they are not learning, we must change our teaching methods to adapt to their needs. We ensure children are progressing and developing skills through our proprietary data measurement system. We seek to create lifelong learners and long-term success.

What is ABA Therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy focuses on understanding and analyzing behavior within the natural environment. This evidence-based best practice standard is used to develop 1:1 programs aimed at enhancing socially significant skills.

Each child’s ABA therapy program is uniquely designed to maximize positive outcomes, employing data-driven decisions to ensure personalized learning and growth.

What’s Involved in ABA Therapy for Kids?

ABA therapy is a widely used and effective intervention for children with autism. This type of therapy is grounded in behaviorism principles, focusing on understanding how learning takes place and using that information to teach new skills.

Here’s an overview of what’s involved in ABA therapy for kids:

Assessment

ABA therapy for children begins with an initial evaluation to understand the child’s strengths, current skill set, and any behaviors that might be interfering with their ability to learn or are identified as a concern by their parents.

This includes a skills assessment that identifies the areas to focus on teaching new skills and a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), which identifies specific interfering behaviors and why they may be occurring to assist with identifying a potential treatment.

Goal Setting

Based on the assessment, an individualized treatment plan is created. Goals are set for the child and tailored to their needs, potentially focusing on communication, social skills, self-care, academic skills, and reducing interfering behaviors.

Intervention Techniques

Various intervention techniques are used during ABA therapy services, including:

Data Collection and Analysis

Continuous data collection is a critical aspect, with therapists collecting data on the child’s progress during each session to track improvements and identify areas needing adjustment. Regular data analysis helps modify strategies and ensures the child is making progress toward their goals.

Parent and Caregiver Involvement

Parent and caregiver involvement is essential for the success of ABA therapy. As a parent, you will work collaboratively with your BCBA to learn how to apply ABA techniques at home to reinforce learning and consistency. The therapy team and family discuss progress and any needed adjustments to the treatment plan in regular updates and frequent meetings.

Generalization and Maintenance

Generalization ensures that learned skills are applied in various settings and situations beyond the therapy sessions. Maintenance strategies are developed to keep skills over time, preventing regression.

Naturalistic teaching in ABA Therapy harnesses children’s favorite activities—like racing toy cars, building with blocks, or bug-hunting pretend play—to create meaningful learning experiences.
