Comprehensive Therapy at Bierman Autism Centers

Comprehensive ABA Therapy is an intensive, full-scope approach to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) that addresses development across multiple domains at once, including communication, social skills, adaptive behavior, learning readiness, and play. For young children with delays across several developmental areas, it’s the treatment intensity most closely associated with meaningful, lasting progress.

Also known as Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI) when delivered to young children, Comprehensive Therapy at Bierman is BCBA-developed, individualized, and built on the same evidence-based practices that guide our Focused Therapy programs. The difference is scope. A comprehensive plan works across many skills simultaneously, with the higher weekly hours that broader clinical needs require.

Who Comprehensive ABA Therapy Is For

Comprehensive ABA Therapy tends to be the recommended fit when:

  • A child has developmental delays across multiple domains, such as communication, social skills, adaptive behavior, and play
  • Early intervention is a clinical priority, particularly for children under age 7
  • The family and clinical team are working to close a developmental gap and support a successful transition to school
  • Assessment indicates that a broader, more intensive plan is likely to produce the strongest outcomes

Per CASP (Council of Autism Service Providers) guidelines, comprehensive treatment is the recommended approach when multiple developmental domains are impacted. Our clinical team works with every family to determine the right pathway forward.

What Makes Bierman's Comprehensive Program Different

  • Teaching Hospital Model. BCBAs are supervised by Master’s or Doctoral-level clinicians, with structured mentorship and ongoing fidelity monitoring across every center.
  • Outcomes Tracked Beyond Graduation. Bierman verifies outcomes at 6-month, 1-year, and 2-year follow-ups, so progress is measured rather than assumed.
  • Multidisciplinary Coordination. Speech and Occupational Therapy are available at select centers, coordinated with your child’s ABA plan for aligned goals and smoother carryover.
  • Practice-Embedded Research. Through PEBBL, our in-house research lab, real-world clinical data informs how care evolves — for your child and for the field.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Comprehensive ABA Therapy?

Comprehensive ABA Therapy is an intensive form of Applied Behavior Analysis that addresses development across multiple domains simultaneously — communication, social skills, adaptive behavior, learning readiness, and play. It’s typically recommended for young children whose clinical needs span several developmental areas, and it’s the treatment intensity most closely associated with strong long-term outcomes.

How many hours per week is Comprehensive ABA Therapy?

Comprehensive programs typically involve 30 to 40 hours per week, delivered Monday through Friday in a center-based setting. Your BCBA will recommend the specific hours based on your child’s clinical needs, assessment results, and CASP-aligned best practices.

Is Comprehensive Therapy the same as EIBI?

When Comprehensive ABA Therapy is delivered to young children, it’s often referred to as Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI). The terms describe the same approach: intensive, evidence-based ABA designed to address broad developmental needs during the critical early years.

How does Comprehensive Therapy differ from Focused Therapy?

Comprehensive Therapy addresses development across many domains at once and typically involves 30 to 40 hours per week. Focused Therapy targets a narrower set of clinical priorities — such as a specific skill or behavior — and typically involves 25 hours per week or less. Both are evidence-based, BCBA-led, and delivered by the same clinical team. The right pathway depends on the clinical picture.

Can we start with Comprehensive Therapy and transition to Focused later?

Plans are reviewed regularly. Our BCBA team works with you throughout the process.

Will my insurance cover Comprehensive ABA Therapy?

Coverage varies by payer and plan. Our intake team can help verify benefits and discuss your options.
